Mary Connealy is an American author that writes romantic comedies. The author’s books emphasize Christian values that are in line with her faith.

+Biography

Mary Connealy was born in 1956 in Oakland, Nebraska. Her childhood was spent in rural Lyons on a farm. She came from a family of eight children. The third child, Mary’s parents, a farmer, and a pianist were trained social workers and they ensured their child grew up with a good head on her shoulders.

Mary’s childhood was largely restricted to her rural home town. Her elementary school –Jefferson School—was a county institution that constituted one room. Following her graduation from Lyons High School in the 1970s, Mary pursued a Mass Communications degree from Wayne State College, also in Nebraska, eventually graduating in 1976.

The author began writing and publishing novels after her last child started high school. She initially worked with Barbour Publishing but eventually switched to Bethany House.

The author’s books have made appearances on lists of Christian fiction bestsellers. Mary has also been fortunate enough to win numerous accolades for her literary efforts, this including a Carol Award and a RITA Award nomination.

Older readers might be aware of Mary Connealy’s earlier novels which she published under the ‘Mary Nealy’ pseudonym.

Mary’s husband is a farmer. They have four daughters.

+Literary Career

Mary has no idea when she decided to become a writer. She doesn’t even know when the passion for writing first manifested. She does know that, even before she was published, writing was her life.

And even after she got published, writing wasn’t something she did but what she was. The hobby brings her great joy and she rarely comes across activities that make her laugh and cry quite like writing her stories down.

But Mary Connealy will be hard pressed to tell you when the passion first manifested and what caused her to take an interest in writing in the first place. The one memory that Mary has of her childhood literary exploits revolves around the romance story she wrote when she was twelve.

She doesn’t remember what happened to the story or what it was about. But she can, at the very least, say that she was passionate about writing when she was twelve.

However, the idea of writing professionally seemed preposterous to her. Living in a rural town in Nebraska, she couldn’t imagine seeing her books on a bookshelf in a bookstore. She didn’t even know how one went about writing and getting a book published.

However, that is what tells Mary Connealy that she has writing in her blood. The fact that she could never imagine being published never stopped Mary from writing. As a young wife, she was constantly creating simple slice of life stories. And by the time she actually reached out to a potential publisher, she had twenty books on her computer, all ready to go.

At some point in the author’s life, while she was teaching GED, Mary Connealy reached out to Silhouette Romance. She sent them a few chapters of a story. They responded positively and asked for a full manuscript, which she eventually delivered. It took a year before the publisher got back to her. And even though the response took so long to come, all they had to offer was a rejection.

Mary was shocked by how slow publishing was. But she did not give up. She entered a writing contest and while she did not win, the feedback she got pushed her to keep improving her craft.

The author kept writing stories and entering contests and doing far better than she expected, this while submitting to different publishers. Eventually, Mary began attracting interest and it wasn’t long before people started asking her to send them her manuscripts.

Mary believes she was fortunate to have made so many submissions over the years. The rejections she received made her stronger to the point where she wasn’t afraid to expose her work to professionals.

Mary’s big break came when an organization called the Heartsong gave her and one other unpublished author a contract. From there, Mary’s star continued to climb and it wasn’t long before her books were lining the shelves of bookstores.

Mary Connealy writes Christian fiction because she wants to counter secular publishing. Mary believes that secular fiction has reached new heights of reveling in sin, so much so that Christian readers all over the world are starving for new avenues of entertainment that will not offend their sensibilities.

It is Mary’s goal to sate the needs of this circle of readers. Even though Mary purposes to produce novels that are free of profanity and sexual innuendo and elements of sin, she makes a point to make her novels as entertaining and thrilling as possible.

Mary Connealy wants her readers to have a blast when they open up one of her novels.

+Petticoat Ranch

Sophie Edwards is perfectly fine on her own. Even with four daughters to care for, Sophie is certain that she can fend for herself. So she isn’t too amused when a headstrong mountain man comes into her life and makes it his business to take care of Sophie and her family.

Clay McClellan is furious when he learns of his brother’s murder. He makes it his goal to find and make the people responsible pay. However, before he can dish out justice, Clay must first sort out Sophie’s situation.

As his sister-in-law, Clay believes it is his duty to marry Sophie. That is the only way he can protect her from the harsh world. Clay is surprised to find that Sophie isn’t nearly as weak and helpless as he presumed and that he has a lot of work to do to worm his way into her heart.

+Out of Control

Julia Gilliland has always been adventurous. She loves nature and she doesn’t think twice before going into the cave near her home for a bit of an exploratory undertaking. Julia thought the cave was perfectly safe. But then she lost her rope and found that she had no way of escaping the cave.

Rafe Kincaid is surprised to find a woman stuck in his ranch’s cavern. And being so prideful about his self-control, Rafe is even more surprised to find that he can barely keep himself from kissing her.

Julia intrigues Rafe but as their relationship begins to take shape, outside forces begin moving to keep them apart.

I commented on one of your posts. But I have found and answer to my question. There is a series from your novella “The Boden Birthright”. I am so excited. I am a caregiver for my father, who has dementia and reading refreshes my sanity. Thank you.

I have loved reading the Kincaid Brides, trouble in Texas, and Cimarron Legacy books, especially because the characters are connected through them all. Are any other series connected to these? Or are there other groups of series with similar connections?
