She is popularly known as the author of the Traders Series and Chronicles of Tenebrak series. In 1973, Jacobs left England for Australia, but she still makes trips back to England to visit her family and also undertake research for her books.
Jacobs became a published author in 1992 when Persons of Rank was published. She has since then published more than 30 standalone novels and over dozen book series.

A Time to Remember

The year is 1945, the war in Europe is over, and it should be a time of joy and celebration. Wives are happy and eagerly waiting for their husband’s return. However, in a small town of Rivenshaw in Lancashire, Judith Crossley is terrified to have her husband back home. He had been a drunkard and a bully, and the moment that he would come back home from leave, he would abuse her. He was not a good father either.
Fortunately, Judith has found a friend who could lend a helping hand- Maynard Esher living on the other side of the town. But what Judith knows is that, if her husband comes back home, hell will break loose again. For a mothers safety and that of her children, she must leave her abusive husband. The only problem is that she has nowhere to go given the fact that their house is rented under her husband name and finding accommodation is hard.
Two other fascinating characters blend Judith story. For example, we meet a land girl named Alice who is returning home after an injury and the loss of her boyfriend. She finds some friendship in Polish refugee while salvaging of what remained of her aunt’s house after a bomb attack. Then there is Maynard, a soldier returning to his aristocratic home which proves to be Judith savior during this desperate time of need.
A Time to Remember is the first novel in Rivenshaw series and is a well narrated contemporary historical book set in Britain Lancashire during the Second World War. The author does an excellent job of showcasing through her characters the costs of being victoriously free from war only to realize that everyone is now required to weigh the cost and repay the financial burden that the war has produced. Jacobs sides with her female characters together with retired men who for long have been the cogs that turn Britain while the healthy and fit males have been absent waging war. But in this novel, the focus has changed, and the new focus is getting back to normality as it was before the war. Women are at home tending to the needs of their husbands who have been locked in war zones.
A Time to Remember is an intriguing, entertaining, and a well crafted with graciously loveable, and some not so cuddly characters make their way into the reader’s emotion.

A Time for Renewal

After the Second World War is over, the whole nation is desperate for housing, and there is little finances available to rebuild. In the small town of Rivenshaw, Mayne has no other option but rather to turn to Esherwood; a war damaged home into flats. Rebuilding Esherwood will not be an easy task, but with Judith by his side, he hopes to restore this stately house to its former glory. First of all, he must open it up to some of his war affected friends, and it becomes apparent that the house is not the only thing that needs rebuilding.
Victor is fighting for the custody of his daughter Betty after the death of his wife. Then there is Ros who has lost all her fortune and has nowhere to go since she has been demobilized from the army. Daniel is not yet settled and is experiencing trauma from his wartime experiences. He is waiting for his divorce to push through and is experiencing family problems as well. On top of these challenges, saving Esherwood proves to be an uphill task for both Judith and Mayne as certain people are determined to stop at nothing to prevent it from happening. During this time of renewal, will this group of affected soldiers find a way to renew their lives and rebuild the old house?

Gifts For Our Time

Gifts for Our Time is the fourth Rivenshaw series installment. The year is 1939 in Germany, and Christa Sommer gets aboard the Kindertransport unsure whether she will ever see her beloved father and mother again. Once she arrives in England, she is taken in by Mrs. Pelling who comes to love Christa as the child she never had.
Mrs. Pelling dies in 1945, and no one knows the whereabouts of her will. Mrs. Pelling greedy niece appears out of nowhere to claim Christa inheritance and kicks her out. The discrimination against Germans still runs high in England and Christa is unable to secure a job in England or find a place to stay.
Luck comes her way the day she saves a lady from being assaulted, and it turns out to be Mayne Esher, Daniels Mother. They take Christa to Rivenshaw where they intend to start a new life. In Rivenshaw Christa is welcomed and develops a love for the place, the people and falls in love with Daniel. But what she doesn’t know is that the Esherwood is not a trouble free place she first thinks. Determined to do their best for the soldiers coming back home from the war, they have agreed to allow the council to construct prefabs on Esherwood garden. However, the town planner seems focused on taking all Mayne’s land for the sake of war. Mayne also discovers a secret door with a complex locking mechanism that has the local locksmith puzzled. What could be hidden behind the door to call for such high security?

I loved reading about him in Silver Wishes which I have just finished. I live in Bentley and am slightly older than you at 86. I hope you reply to me.

I have become hooked on your books ever since a friend introduced me to them. They all have happy endings and always cheer me up – sometimes it’s nice to just get lost in an easy to read book – which yours are. They bring a lot of pleasure to relaxation. Thank you.

I would love to know what books follow Moving On which I thoroughly enjoyed, as usual.
You almost feel you have made a friend with some of the characters in the book.
    Thank you Anna….

I remember reading one of your books that mentioned the Cathedral at Singapore. A friend at our church in fact played the organ there during the Second World War. She was then 13 and hi d behind a pile of hassocks when practising and Japanese soldiers came into the building

I’ve emailed Anna a few times. I’ve so enjoyed her novels and would like to find authors who write similarly especially with the setting in Northern England as I’ve enjoyed the characters’ values and way of life. Would appreciate suggestions.
