Ilona Andrews is a husband-wife writer pair who are well known American writers and have written many noted novel series in their career. Ilona Andrews actually stands for Ilona Gordon and her husband Andrews Gordon. Ilona Gordon uses the name Ilona Andrews as a pen name for writing all her novels. Her husband Andrew served in the U.S Army as a communications sergeant. He was a top intelligence officer and was very qualified. But he resigned after a few years of service to help Ilona establish herself as a novelist. Ilona generally writes urban fantasy novels and is helped by her husband most of the times. The pair is has been top rated in the New York Times Bestselling Authors list for a number of times and are still holding the top position for their recent novel named ‘Magic Rises’. Ilona basically belongs from Russia and moved to the United States when she was sixteen years old. She met her future husband Andrew Gordon while she was studying in West Carolina University in United States. She began writing novels as a hobby after graduating in biochemistry. But, it was her husband who actually supported her to write professionally and even helped her to submit her first novel.
She started her career with the Kate Daniel series and the first novel of the series was published in the year 2007 which was named ‘Magic Bites’. The novel brought great success to her and motivated her to write more novels. Most her novels are based on fantasy with additions of mystery and horror. She publishes her novels as a hybrid genre mixed with all these elements which is very much liked by the readers. The two of the most successful novel series written by Ilona Andrews are the Kate Daniels series and The Edge series. Ilona has described a totally changed world in the Kate Daniels series. She says that a magic is causing the world a great deal of losses in terms of life and property. The magic has arisen as a result of technological progresses. And here lives the main character named Kate Daniels who very talkative has a sword to protect herself from enemies. She keeps hiding from place to place to avoid being targeted because of the magic in her blood. The series consists of twelve novels which are all very successful. The novels were published starting from 2007 and the latest one was published recently. The first novel ‘Magic Bites’ describes a place called Atlanta which is dominated by a Magic. The Magic has caused life in Atlanta very miserable. When the Magic dominates, everything comes to a stand-still. The next moment technology overcomes but is unable to protect the city from monsters and vampires. Kate Daniels is targeted because of the magic in her blood. She is forced to hide in a plain sight to avoid getting caught and experimented on. But, soon her guardian is killed and she is in a dilemma whether to keep hiding or to come out and take revenge of her guardian’s murder. She presumes that hiding would be easy but later realizes that her real aim is to pursue the killer.
The novel describes her journey and the hardships she faces to finally overcome the killer and save the city from the ill creatures. The novel was very well praised by the readers and brought a lot of fame to Ilona Andrews. She was included in the New York Bestselling Authors’ list for the first time and that motivated her to write the sequel of the first novel. The sequel was named ‘Magic Burns’ and was published in the year 2008. The novel was published by Ace Books who have published all of Ilona’s novels. The novel shows the miserable condition of Atlanta getting more miserable. The hazards of the Magic are a lot and Kate Daniels is described to be acting as a mercenary towards all the ill effects of the Magic. The Normal effects include waves full of paranormal energies flowing across the city of Atlanta. But, what is more dreadful is the upcoming fight between two gods for rebirth. The gods battle for power with the survival of city at stake. Kate is expected to retrieve a set of maps that are stolen, to avoid this tug-of-war between the gods. The stolen maps are the only hope to stop this deadly problem. Kate sets out to find the maps and save the city. She faces a lot of struggle to reach the maps but gives her everything to avoid the misfortune of the Atlanta city.
This novel too opened to great reviews from one and all and further increased the popularity of Ilona Andrews. She was again praised for her efforts and listed in the New York Times Bestselling Authors’ list. The novel reached 32nd rank in the April 2008 edition of the bestseller list of New York Times. This inspired Ilona to complete a series of successful novels under Kate Daniels. Good evening! I’m currently re-reading your catalogue and adding the books I don’t already have and have a question. Given that some stories about individual characters (like Magic Stars, for example, or Iron and Magic) take place in larger worlds like Kate’s, or cameos of people like the Camarins and Sofie Mar in Innkeepers, is there a list of books in order of the history of the associated worlds and characters? Like a deck being shuffled together and blended?
I love your books but nothing is more frustrating then to not be able to get & read ALL of a series. I’m looking for “Feral Heat”, Jace’s story. Where can I find this?
You’re on the wrong page – Ilona didn’t write that one. Jennifer Ashley did. You can find it within the anthology Shifter Mates, and Amazon sells it separately on Kindle and audiobook.
