Jeri Westerson is an award-winning author that writes medieval mysteries and historical novels. She has also experimented with the paranormal genre.

+Biography

Jeri Westerson was born in 1960 in Los Angeles. She has distinct memories of all the days of smog and smoke and earthquakes she endured. Jeri’s family had a deep love for history, so it comes as no surprise that the author came to appreciate the subject.

Medieval history was especially popular in the household. And as a child, she grew up soaking up anything and everything medieval that she could find. Though, rather than following the scholarly pursuit of history, Jeri decided that her time would be better spent in entertainment.

The author will be hard-pressed to tell you what drew her to acting. But for a few years, it was all she could think about. But the passion for it didn’t last. As an adult, Jeri was prone to wandering through the job market.

She got to try her hand at all manner of careers, this including graphic art, teaching, and hosting. She was even a tour guide at one time, not to mention experimenting with journalism. Writing didn’t come into the picture until some years later, this after Jeri had exhausted her penchant for job hopping.

Jeri knew she wanted to produce fiction set in medieval times. Her passion for the subject had never dimmed. But Jeri also knew she loved mystery. After further contemplation, the author decided to combine the genres, producing what some people have called Medieval Noir’.

No matter how widely read you are, it is highly unlikely that you have ever come across a group of stories about a disgraced knight that solves mysteries as a private investigator in 14th Century London.

It is little wonder that Jeri has garnered so much attention for her literary efforts. The author operates within what was once a niche genre but which has quickly elicited interest because of the interesting storytelling opportunities it provides. Few historical literary creations can boast of having received twelve award nominations.

Jeri knows that she operates within a relatively untested field, and that has encouraged her to keep plying her trade. She knows she is giving her readers the sorts of stories they probably wouldn’t get anywhere else.

But don’t think Jeri Westerson is just another bookworm of an author that spends her days in dusty attics churning out mystery novels. Jeri’s love for medieval history is the real deal. If she isn’t at home writing or at conventions meeting her fans, then you can find Jeri all over the country giving in depth talks about her love for the middle ages.

This is the same lady that boasts an impressive cache of medieval weaponry, weaponry she dons on a regular basis. If you don’t know why you can never find Jeri Westerson at conventions, it’s probably because she’s buried inside some epic medieval suit of armor.

Though, Jeri will tell you that her love for mystery is no weaker than her passion for the middle ages. Some of the author’s achievements include being the president of the Mystery Writers of America, a position she held for two terms.

Jeri Westerson has a commercial photographer for a husband and a screenwriter for a son. The family has an interesting assortment of pets at home, including tarantulas and bees.

Jeri is very active on social media. She is open to interacting with her fans on a varying number of subjects from novels to medieval history.

+Veil of Lies

Crispin Guest has nothing in life. His betrothed is gone, and so are his friends and patrons. Accused of plotting against Richard II, Crispin was lucky to escape with his life, even though he was stripped of his rank, honor, and position in society.

Life isn’t easy for a disgraced night, and Crispin quickly finds that there are no obvious trades for him to do to support himself. The only thing Crispin still has going for him is his wits. And there is always a place on the mean streets of London for someone with wits and cunning.

Crispin’s adventures begin proper in 1383 when he is tasked by a reclusive merchant to find out if his wife is cheating on him. Crispin might have lost his title and honor, but he finds that he is a little hesitant to sully what is left of his reputation by doing such disgraceful business.

However, he relents when the stark realities of his financial situation begin to close in. And it doesn’t take Crispin long to learn that the wife in question is indeed up to no good. When he attempts to reveal his findings to his client, Crispin finds the merchant dead.

The room in which he died was locked from the inside, so the mystery only deepens. Crispin doesn’t want any unwarranted attention but that is exactly what he gets from the Lord Sheriff of London.

As far as Crispin can tell, there’s a religious relic in play, one that might have gotten the Merchant killed.

The first book in the Crispin Guest Mystery series does a great job of painting London in dark, grimy and gritty colors. The book follows the exploits of a knight that falls on hard times. Crispin is forced to work as a private investigator to make a living. And even though he lost his title and honor, Crispin still maintains his air of superiority.

+Serpent in the Thorns

14th Century London is a hard place for a man like Crispin Guest. Once a member of the ruling class, the Knight was convicted of treason and stripped of everything he held dear. With no family and friends to lean on, Crispin is slowly but steadily building his reputation as a private investigator of considerable intelligence.

When a man is shot with a crossbow bolt, all attention turns to a simple-minded tavern girl, the only person with the opportunity to commit the murder. The girl comes to Crispin for help. The situation is dire.

The dead man was supposed to help maintain relations between France and England by bringing over a relic from the French King. In taking the girl’s case, events conspire to make Crispin a prime suspect. Crispin must solve the crime before war breaks out.

   Am re-reading the Crispin Guest books…don’t give up on him…his adventures are great!! And looking forward to the court jester series….more books to read!!!

   Oh, please don’t end the Crisping Guest series….they are on of my favorites….surely there are more adventures for him!
