The name Drunk Monkeys refers to a series of novels written by Tymber Dalton. The books can be categorized as post-apocalyptic, science fiction literature with an adult spin.

+The Story

The Drunk Monkeys series tells the stories of a group of elite operatives called the Drunk Monkeys who carry out dangerous missions in their attempts to safeguard the nation and the world.

The series has been mistaken for young adult literature by some people, though that misunderstanding is usually cleared up very quickly once one takes the time to read any one of these books.

But the mistake isn’t that hard to understand. You have a post-apocalyptic society facing a world ending threat. There’s a girl that either seems to have all the answers or she can see the clues that everyone seems all too quick to ignore, and this perfectly positions her to undertake a mission that will see her stop the bad guys and possibly even save the day.

But she cannot complete her mission on her own. And that is where her protectors come into play, two men who fall for her and vow to keep her safe. The only thing missing is a love triangle. The excessive sex also immediately separates these novels from any other young adult series.

Though, the young adult tropes are so difficult to ignore. The Drunk Monkeys, it should be noted, takes place in the 2140s. A central theme of the novels is the Kite Virus. The Kite virus was created by the North Koreans for all the obvious reasons.

Upon release, the virus starts a pandemic that quickly sparks a war between North Korea and Japan, a war that only serves the purpose of hiding the presence of the kite virus. Once it finally gets out, the virus devastates the world, changing life as most people know it.

Borders are quickly closed and quarantines become the norm, with air travel becoming very restrictive. It becomes a race against time to find the scientists that created the virus with the hopes of coercing them into creating a vaccine.

The only team capable of undertaking such a mission is the Drunk Monkeys. In the Drunk Monkeys, you have twenty men that have been trained to survive in the harshest of situations. The last hope of the world, they are deployed all over the globe, tasked with locating those responsible for the Kite Virus and stopping them.

However, their task won’t be easy. There are those who are determined to stop the Drunk Monkeys from achieving their goal. Chief amongst these villains is the Reverend Hannibal Silo, a ruthless religious leader who is determined to find and control the Kite Virus.

Hannibal wants to rule the United States, and he thinks the virus will help him achieve his goal. If the religious fanatic can take America, nothing will stop him from conquering the world. So the Drunk Monkeys must stop him before he can gain a foothold.

But stopping the Reverend isn’t without its challenges, especially with his penchant for brainwashing innocents and using them as pieces in his schemes.

Considering the global stakes and the death and mayhem the Drunk Monkeys series deals with, one wouldn’t be faulted for confusing the novels with any other international thriller set in the near future.

However, the Drunk Monkeys series is actually romance-centered. The primary protagonist of each new book is usually a woman and the two Drunk Monkeys operatives vying for her love.

It could be argued that all the Drunk Monkeys books more or less follows the same structure. Each book starts with a woman on the verge of a big discovery. She’s either on the trail of the scientists who created the Kite virus or she has a lead on the vaccine to the Kite Virus, or she simply has a part to play in events with global consequences.

And because the woman is meddling with dangerous matters, she eventually attracts the attention of some very bad people. It takes the actions of a pair of Drunk Monkeys operatives to save her. It doesn’t take these three parties long to realize that there are threads connecting their seemingly disparate missions.

Typically, they all have their sights set on something or someone related to the Kite Virus or Reverend Hannibal. As such, it only makes sense for them to team up and to pursue a singular goal as a unit.

It isn’t long before passion begins to ignite and the trio engages in all manner of sexual activities.

Unlike the adoration she sometimes attracts for her BDSM books, Tymber Dalton, the author has been criticized for the sexual aspects of the Drunk Monkeys series. No one has ever accused Tymber of writing bad sex.

However, it has been suggested on numerous occasions that the sex and even the romance in the Drunk Monkeys series aren’t really necessary and that the novels can actually stand on their own as thrilling tales about an elite team of operatives fighting to save the world.

Some readers have also complained that Tymber is usually so focused on crafting all the elements that help her post-apocalyptic stories come together that she has no time to build the chemistry between her characters.

As such, some of the romance just falls flat.

+Monkey Business

Celia Jorgens didn’t think she would need the Drunk Monkeys. But that was before the Chicago reporter was driven to Australia by a story that might actually lead her to the one person who can stop the ravages of the Kite Virus.

Unlike Celia, Tango and Doc are aware of the shadowy organization that is determined to see the Kite Virus succeed. Assigned the task of finding the scientist that could stop the virus, the pair decides to use Celia to locate their target.

Celia doesn’t mind having the hunky military men by her side, especially when the race for a certain scientist heats up.

+Monkey’s Uncle

When Twins Oscar and Yankee are deployed and tasked with finding the scientist that created a deadly virus, they do not expect the trail to lead them to a resourceful nurse.

India Pelletier has only ever cared about helping people, which is why she is more than happy to accept the assistance of a mysterious doctor who she thinks was sent to bolster the manpower of their Mexico clinic.

As India’s life intertwines with that of the twins, they begin searching for a mole that is working to stop them from interfering with the effects of the Kite Virus.
