Anne Calhoun writes contemporary erotic romance. Her work can be more accurately categorized as erotic fiction and she has gained renown amongst fans of the genre for books like ‘Liberating Lacey’.

+Biography

Anne Calhoun’s life changed rather drastically when she finally decided to write her romance novels. Anne wasn’t always on the fast track to writing romance and winning awards.

In fact, the publishing arena was the farthest thing from her mind at one point. Anne initially acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in English and History. The qualifications drove her to pursue a highly lucrative career in the business arena.

Despite the opportunities Anne’s work in HR and IT promised to deliver, Anne found that she wasn’t especially happy. Her husband will be the first to attest to all the misery she had to bear in the eight years she spent working in the field of business.

And he will be the first to attest to all the times he encouraged her to simply quit her job and find something more appealing to do. This particular line of advice was driven by the fact that Anne Calhoun was always complaining to her husband about her job.

He didn’t understand why she didn’t just leave if she hated everything so much. That advice was exactly what Anne needed. In order to pursue a career in business, Anne had been forced to stifle her love for English, Literature and History. She soon found that working in cube farms all day did little to curb that love.

It wasn’t long before the author finally went back to school to acquire her MA in American Studies. Interestingly enough, her thesis revolved around the issue of masculinity and how it was portrayed in erotic and romance novels.

Anne’s first book was terrible, though. Those are her words and they might emanate from her perfectionist tendencies. Getting pregnant obviously threw a spanner in the works and she put writing off for a number of years, prioritizing the care of her son.

Anne only came back to her computer after her son started preschool. She hasn’t stopped writing since then. The first few months were difficult. However, Anne has since learnt to work within her deadlines.

She now finds time to do yoga and plan her books out a little better. She also loves to read, travel and knit. Anne believes that her greatest strength is the fact that she never quits. The author, her husband and son live in the Midwest.

Anne Calhoun’s first book won an EPIC Award (Best contemporary erotic Romance).

+Unforgiven

Adam Collins refused to give into his feelings for Marissa Brooks, despite their intensity. Raised by a single mother, Adam did not think it right to take chances with the future of a girl.

However, his restraint and determination made little difference when a challenge left a student dead, shattering his and Marissa’s lives. Unable to live with himself, Adam disappeared into the Marines, not only determined to lose himself in discipline and duty but intent on taking the dead boy’s place.

And in doing so, Adam left Marissa alone to struggle with her dreams.

A chance encounter reunites the two when Adam returns to Walkers Ford a dozen years later to serve as best man at a wedding. Even though Adam’s connection with Marissa is still quite alive, the mistakes of his past will not permit him happiness.

Marissa and Adam will have to wrestle with both their demons in order to find forgiveness.

Anne wrote quite a number of erotic stories before finally throwing out ‘Unforgiven’, one of her first attempts at writing contemporary romance. And she succeeds in her efforts here. There is more of an emphasis on the plot than in many of Anne Calhoun’s previous novels.

Adam and Marissa are well drawn three-dimensional characters. Anne writes them in ways that seem to shroud them in mystery. Every time you think you know everything there is to know, Anne begins to peel even more layers back.

And she doesn’t make any absolute judgments about the character. Rather, she leaves room for the readers to perceive Adam and Marissa as they wish. A large portion of the book is just Adam and Marissa trying to figure out what they feel.

As with any decent romance novel, the chemistry between the protagonists is great.

+Afternoon Delight

Everyone things Sarah McCall loves her job, and she does. As the co-owner of a food truck and a recent Manhattan transplant, Sarah definitely elicits pleasure from refining her menu and learning the city.

However, proving especially pleasurable are the afternoons she spends with the hot paramedic that might be her favorite customer.

This is as typical an Anne Calhoun book as one can expect to get. As far as erotic fiction goes, few authors can rival Anne’s work. She wastes little time in getting to the sensual components of her novel.

As with most erotic fiction, people read Anne’s work because of all the sex inside. And, in that regard, this book is very simplistic because it gets right to the point. Anne obviously knows what people want and she gives them exactly that.

There are no chapters wasted on fluff. Though, the characters are still believable. When they are not engaged in intercourse, the protagonists are trying to work through very real problems.

In that regard, one must commend Anne Calhoun for creating a hero and heroine who are not only sexually enticing but very easy to relate to.

Sarah has spent more time than she would like caring for her sick aunt. Now she wants to get back to her more spontaneous days. And that is where Tim comes into the picture.

Tim doesn’t think about the future. For him, only the present matters. The attitude emanates from a loss he suffered in the past. Tim cannot afford to get close to others. However, Sarah presents a bit of a challenge for him and he soon finds it rather difficult to draw a solid line in the sand.

Again, if you know Anne’s work, then you shouldn’t expect much melodrama in this book. Things are rather simple and straight forward, designed to deliver a fun and sensual experience.
