Debbie Dadey is one of the noteworthy novelists of the books based on the fiction and children’s fantasy genres. She has written and co-authored a total of 162 novels in her writing career, all of which are based on the theme of children’s fiction. Debbie’s popular novel series include the Mermaid Tales, which is published by the Simon Schuster publishers. The most popular book series of author Debbie is The Bailey School Kids series. The Scholastic publication has released this series. Prior to the beginning of her writing career, Debbie used to work as a librarian and a teacher. Initially, she was a teacher of the first grade and then decided to have a change of career, eventually becoming a librarian. Debbie says that she always had the interest in writing her story for children. The reason that she gives for this is that she was fond of reading children’s books herself. It was during one of her teaching class that she realized she wanted a book written for the reluctant readers. This led her to write the debut novel of her career, Vampires Don’t Wear Polka Dots. In completing this book, Debbie had a collaborated with a fellow teacher and friend at her school, Marcia Thornton Jones. The two have said that the story described in the book was the outcome of an extremely bad day that they experienced while teaching. Debbie and Marcia often indulge in jokes after the success of the book, saying that if they had been vampires, the students would listen to them in attention. Since then, author Debbie has teamed up with Marcia Jones for writing over 125 books. Altogether, they have gone on to sell more than 47 million printed copies all over the world. Besides her collaboration with Marcia Thorton Jones, Debbie also writes independently. She has contributed with a few highly interesting books in her career. Debbie has stated that while creating the characters of her books, she used to enjoy a lot thinking like a young girl. While describing the characters like Echo, Pearl, Shelly, and Kiki, Debbie loved channelling the mermaid inside her and this made her go through a great time. She has depicted that the mermaid-girls deal with a number of issues related to kids, in each of her novels. The main characters are also shown learning different things related to the oceans in the school. Author Debbie was brought up in Kentucky, The United States. She has lived in various places throughout the country along with her family.
As of today, Debbie resides in Bucks County, Pennsylvania as well as in Sevierville, Tennessee. She is happily married and is blessed with 3 children. Debbie is fond of pet animals. She has a couple of dogs at her home. Debbie was born on May 18, 1959, in Morganfield, Kentucky. She was born as Debbie Gibson, but later changed her last name of Dadey. As a child, she was very talkative and this would often land her in trouble. She has an older brother, who lives with Debbie’s mother in Kentucky. Debbie is very much attached to the scenic beauty of Kentucky. The one thing that she likes the most about Kentucky is its horses. She also likes mutton and beans from Thomason’s BBQ in Henderson. Debbie’s husband, Eric, works as a scientist and she is very proud of his work in making medicines to save the lives of people. Debbie considers herself and her family as special individuals. The name of her Bailey series is taken from her grandmother’s name, Lilly Bailey. It was suggested to Debbie by Marcia and the idea worked for them wonderfully. In her spare time, author Debbie likes to get involved in her children’s activities, like playing soccer, skateboarding, hiking, playing tennis, piano, reading, and scrapbooking. But, what she likes to do the most is writing.
The Adventures of Bailey School Kids book series written by Debbie Dadey is comprised of 51 books in total, which were released between the years 1990 and 2006. Besides the actual novels, Debbie has also written a few special editions as a part of the series, including the Holiday Specials, the Super Specials, and the Joke Book collection. One of the initial books published in the series is entitled ‘Sea Monsters Don’t Ride Motorcycles’. The Scholastic Paperbacks released it in 2000. Debbie has mentioned the main characters in this book as Eddie, Jessie, Loch Ness, Nessie, and a few others as well. At the start of the book, it is shown that the kids at the Baily School follow Eddie’s grandmother at the event of motorcycle racing. There, they come across a mysterious ride named Jessie. As the children come to know more about Jessie, they become suspicious about her. The kids learn that Jessie knows everything about the sea monsters and loves the ocean. Whenever Jessie appears before the kids, she is all wet. This makes the kids suspect her even more. Jessie turns out to be Nessie’s cousin, a lady who the kids thought was the monster called Loch Ness. Later, it is learned that if Jessie goes on to win the race, she will build a resort with the prize money and ask Eddie’s grandmother to move in along with Eddie. The children decide that they cannot let Jessie win as they want Eddie to stay with them in Bailey City. So, they start making plans to stop Jessie from emerging victorious in the motorcycle race.
Another interesting book published in the series is titled as ‘Santa Claus Doesn’t Mop Floors’. It was released in the year 1991. The primary characters in this story include Mr. Jolly, Mrs. Jeepers, Mr. Dobson, Eddie, etc. Author Debbie has introduced Mr. Jolly as the new janitor at Bailey School. The story begins by describing that there have been a lot of weird grown ups in the Bailey City. But, the newly arrived custodian seems to be one of his kind at the school. When Mr. Jolly first arrives at the school out of nowhere just days before Christmas, everyone begins to think of him as the fabled St Nick. Even the kids begin to suspect him because of his white beard and hair, as well as because of his liking for the colder temperatures. Now, in order to find out whether Mr. Jolly is really the Santa Claus, the children at Bailey School start making plans. First, they try to find out as much information about Mr. Jolly’s personal life as possible. And then based on the clues, they will become certain whether he is indeed the Santa Claus or not. This book comprises of a new cover for the holiday season. The publishers have given it a fresh look, which makes the book a perfect gift for children for the Christmas season.
